Pocket Power Pack
LEAB chAmp is a very small, compact battery charger intended for Lead Acid batteries. It is available in 4 models for 12 and 24 volt with 85 and 215 Watts output effect. The batteries are charged using the WUoU charging characteristic. This means charging with full effect until the gassing voltage has been reached. This voltage is kept constant until the current has decreased to a limit value specific for each model. After that the charger automatically changes over to maintenance charging (float charging). The main charging phases (WU) have a maximum time limit of 20 hrs. The batteries will be fully charged without any risk of overcharging.
Handles Tough Tasks
The encapsulation, the volume, the shock resistance and the efficiency makes the chAmps perfect for a multitude of tough tasks. They are equally suited to charge batteries for cyclical work as they are to do maintenance charging of starter batteries. They can handle difficult working environments both as free standing and as "on board" chargers. The batteries are safely, efficiently and economically charged.
Handles Tough Environments
The chAmp electronic circuits are encapsulated in epoxy and are fully waterproof, protection class IP65. They can withstand water spray and even to be fully submerged in water. It is not necessary to protect the chargers from rain or water spray. They can be installed in very tough and demanding environments and still do their job. Since all chAmps are fully encapsulated in epoxy they are also vibration resistant as well as shock proof. Not even the heavier components can come loose due to vibrations. Thus they are well suited as "on-board" chargers also in vehicles used on uneven ground.
High Efficiency
Regardless, even if the input voltage decreases down as far as 170V or the frequency varies between 40 and 60 Hz the LEAB chAmp charges the batteries with correct charging voltage and with full effect. Power consumption from the battery by the charger is less than 2mA. This results in a safe, efficient and soundless charging with high efficiency (85%).
Compact
Like all primary switch mode battery chargers the LEAB chAmps are small and compact. See Technical data for dimensions on the different models. The low volume also makes them very easy to position.

Versatile
The compact format, the low weight and the flexibility makes the ABC chargers suitable for a wide area of use. Everything from starter and leisure batteries to industrial traction batteries can be charged. The robust design also makes them excellent as on board chargers. Availability of cooling air for the temperature controlled fan is just about all you have to think about when choosing a location for the charger. The ABC chargers are available in 12, 24, 36 and 48 Volt with a maximum output of 800 W.
Charge Your Batteries Properly
To use the full potential of your batteries it is necessary that they get proper charging. This is more easily said than done, with so many different parameters to consider, e.g. type of battery, temperature, discharge level, area of usage, time available, possible concurrent consumption etc. Flexible, adaptable battery chargers as the ABC-chargers takes you far. A knowledgeable supplier such as LEAB will take you the rest of the way to the objective, to get as much service as possible out of your batteries.
Suitable for All Types of Lead-Acid Batteries
The ABC chargers are available in a number of basic models that are designed to suit different types of batteries, eg. Traction batteries and leisure batteries. They can be used for all types of chargeable lead-acid batteries and are adaptable for different capacities in Ah and also between open and closed batteries (eg. gel-batteries). The ABC chargers need a voltage of between 1.4 to 2.89 V/cell present in connected battery, to start. This is simply a safety measure. The micro computer controlled charging starts with a soft start during 3.5 min. Then the preselected micro computer controlled charging cycle starts and charges the batteries. A multi colour LED indicates charging status. The ABC chargers are available with IUIU or ILoU charging characteristics adapted to different types of batteries, open or closed, including batteries with gelled electrolyte.
Installation
Simple installation, fix the mounting plate, insert the charger and tighten the locking screw on the side of the mounting plate. The ABC chargers have fixed cables both for mains connection and battery connection. (Cables can be adapted for special demands.)
Safe Operation
The ABC chargers will manage large deviations of the input, concerning voltage, frequency and shape. The charging characteristic is kept correct from 90 to 255V input. Between 90 and 200V the effect of the chargers are reduced. At 110V the chargers will produce approx. 80% of maximum output.

Efficient HF Charger
The ABC chargers are high frequency chargers with all the advantages these types of charger have. High efficiency, low weight, small format, no net humming and correct operation within wide tolerances on input voltage. Many believe that HF chargers have high EMC notice but with good design and filtering to the EU-norms valid today, you will not detect any difference from a 50Hz transformer charger. The CE marking is intended to be a guarantee that the norms have been adhered to. The ABC chargers meets todays norms and also meets some future norm demands by taking a pure sinewave input from the mains net.

12V to 48 V - UP TO 200 Amps
General
A built in microcomputer controls the ABC charger. The standard IUIU-Characteristics are shown in the diagram below. Other Characteristics are available on request. This charger supplies constant current up to 2.4V/cell. When this level is reached the voltage remains constant. The current drops to a pre-set level (depending on battery capacity and type) and remains at this level for the duraton of the main charge (time depending on the depth of discharge). The charging cycle ends with a 2.26 V/cell trickle charge.
The charging sequence is indicated by a LED, yellow during charging, green when battery is ready for use and flashing red if an error occurs.
A cooling fan starts automatically to avoid overheating. The fan is RPM controlled to reduce noise.
The DC side is electronically protected against short curcuit and wrong polarity.
Safety functions
- The battery needs to have 1.4-2.89 V/cell to start charging.
- The charger has different timers to turn off and give an error indication with red flashing LED.
- Output power limitation if charger is over heated.
- Soft start before full power is given

The new line of battery chargers EPCG000I (with 6 x 20A outputs at 12Volts ) and the EPCH000I (with 3 x 20A outputs at 24Volts), have the same quality and reliability as all our family of battery chargers. By building the charger as two modules we reduce the possibility of total failure and actually allow the operation of either of the modules on its own, in case of emergency or when carrying out maintenance of some of the onboard equippment without cutting off power for the entire system.
The battery charger is a compact system, the casing is made of stainless steel AISI 316, equipped with an enhanced cooling system (the charger has a 22OVac operated fan) which allows a better cooling and utilisation of the charger even in the warmest conditions.
